After writing and posting the For Sale post for the truck and trailer, I wondered what I was doing. I was really wondering.
Danged. Sure wish I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Help!
A new dream has already formed. I'll call it Plan B. Keep the truck and trailer. Live seven to nine months in Tucson at an RV park. For those warmer summer months head to Arizona's higher elevations and rent a space at an RV park. A location in northern Arizona is not a long drive and would be a good option for those summer months. Possible locations include Prescott, Verde Valley, Show Low, etc.
Considering my indecision, I removed the post and the ad.
Hope you are enjoying this soap opera of second thoughts!
Great decision, Lloyd - one I'll bet you'll really be pleased with. And...if it doesn't work out after a year or so, then you can sell the combo and rent that apartment. The White mountains are beautiful in the summer.
ReplyDeleteChris H
At least I will be pleased with the decision in the short term.
DeleteSeems like a good easing into the settled life plan. When I got my van and saw how well it lived despite being tiny, I had thoughts that having a mobile cabin would make living with global warming better. When the weather didn't suit, I can go find better weather.
ReplyDelete"Easing" into a settled existence is good description of the plan.
DeleteFor me this is the better solution. I like the "camping" at different spots when the weather is nice. In the heat of summer I will be in a campground in the shade in north Alabama near what is left of my family. In the cold times I will be in south Texas in campgrounds not being cold most of the time. When I last lived in an apartment it was too compartmental and the folks were not friendly like in a campground. I really like living in a campground and plan to end my life among the RV folks.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. However, I don't want to move too often. Future plans are for a minimum of month long stays.
DeleteThat is what I have accidently done most of my RVing life. A few shorter stays but usually at least a week and lots of times near a month or more. And now I have slowed down the moves from that. Having options is still important to me at this time.
DeleteGlad to see someone else change their mind within 24 hours after putting an ad up to sell something. I've done it a lot. I think you have made the right move and have the right idea for future residence.
ReplyDeleteThat was a "dress rehearsal" for the next time. :-))
DeleteWhat's wrong with change?
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with change. It was the radical nature of the proposed change that was disconcerting. Hopefully, extended stays will alleviate some of that "need for change".
DeleteAll you have really done is to leave all your options open. If I understand what you are thinking at this point is you are wanting to live with out the pressure of moving from place to place. Parking your home for extended periods does that but you still have the freedom of relocating at will to a different park.... Sounds good to me!!
ReplyDeleteSo true. The frustration was the relocating to the next camping place. So true. You have correctly identified the positive; I have left my options open.
DeleteGee, I didn't even have a chance to make an offer on your rig! The parking up in Idaho is free and the summer weather is cool. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust because I removed that ad doesn't mean that the truck and trailer are not for sale. Everything is for sale for some amount of money. :-))
DeleteI Like your thinking here. Test the waters, you may like this change as much as your Wandrin's for the last thirteen. You can always rent another day.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to review "Plan B" a year from now after extended stays in Tucson and a higher elevation of Arizona.
DeleteProbably a good decision to leave some options. Best to ease into any major change like this. Hope you can find the right balance. Take care.
ReplyDeleteRecalling my own tagline: Enjoying Life Is Matter Of Balance... Maintaining that balance might be the reason for the recent thought to settle down and then changing the mind to stay on the road with extended stays. Maintaining balance is not easy. Kind of like the seal keeping that ball balanced on his nose; have to keep moving.
DeleteWe decided a long time ago to do the Arizona thing. Winter in Yuma then 7 weeks in Cottonwood then summer in Show Low,Az After we can't travel anymore or don't ant to.
ReplyDeleteWe own a lot in Concho area and were looking for some one to help develop it 1.09 acres great view.
In some ways my plans to settle in Tucson were thoughts about that day when I could -- or should -- no longer travel. However, unlike you, there will be nothing owned in my future settling. Renting/leasing is the plan for my future.
DeleteI'm glad I missed your post on selling. I probably would have had a heart attack. I was just mentioning to Ron that we are so lucky to live in Arizona. Nice winters in the south and by moving less than 200 miles, cool in the summer.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, I didn't cause myself a heart attack; just a sleepless night. So true -- summer in the high country and winter at lower elevations. That's a dream for my future.
DeleteIMHO your plan is a good one. After a full winter here you may be tired of it and ready to be elsewhere. We generally stay 6 months, and after that we're ready to leave. Enjoy your winter!
ReplyDeleteThe six months in Tucson last winter was enjoyable. No doubt this winter will be as enjoyable. Then it will be time to take a break and head to cooler elevations. Then return to Tucson in late fall. At least that is the plan.
Deletehey now Lloyd, what about san diego, don't you have family there?
ReplyDeleteYes. My daughter lives in San Diego. Weathers great. However, after checking pricing of RV parks and one bedroom apartments, my savings wouldn't last too long. By comparison, Tucson is less expensive, hiking is more convenient and the population is a fraction of San Diego County.
DeleteLloyd, that is exactly my plan. I think... I didn't comment on your last post - I wasn't sure what to say. I thought you were planning to wait on selling your truck and trailer until you were sure you didn't want to travel anymore. This new plan sounds like a better one for now.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm tired of dry camping, probably in a year or so, I plan to find a nice "low service, low price" RV park where I can get full hook ups and not pay for everyone else using a pool and all the extras that I never use. I'll stay in one in the south, and when it's too hot, move north to another similar RV park. When it gets too cold, I'll head south. Until I REALLY want to settle down, and then maybe I'll just stay in a nice park like Santee Lakes in San Diego County for months at a time until I want to travel a little. Staying 3 months or 6 months in an RV park would give me a pretty good discount, I think, and AZ and NM are so much more affordable than California.
I'm not as ready as you are to make changes, but I'm definitely thinking about what I might do in the future - a year or two away. I know I won't want to continue dry camping forever. :)
It is still a plan. I am not sure what I will really do when I am parked in Tucson. Weather is nice in San Diego County. However, Tucson is a bit smaller with fewer people.
DeleteMissed the post but what you are suggesting now seems both affordable and easy while maintaining a high quality of life. If you are uncomfortable driving, get someone to help. What I dislike about apartment living is the too often undesirable neighbors. Gave it up 35 years ago and wouldn't go back! When I was young it was still just a thrill being on my own.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a 55+ apartment complex. The perfect apartment would be an end unit with windows on two sides. Otherwise it is simply a cave. The other alternative is a single wide in a mobile home park. The bad part is then I own something. The good part is not sharing walls with neighbors. The much better solution is to continue living in truck and trailer -- as long as I can.
DeleteHowever, I have been known to change my mind frequently. :-))
I guess this means no more Benson….your plan sounds great for what you want and seem to need now…how lucky that you even have a plan...
ReplyDeleteIt's still to early to decide what this all means. I could change my mind again in a couple of weeks. Or in a day or two. The lot at Benson will be kept -- at least until some real decision is made.
