Stepped In It

Dream on.... Nice image, but neither the dog nor the owner cleaned up the canine feces this time. Commonly referred to as dog shit.

Unplugging from the power pole is when I stepped in it with both sandaled feet. Of course my very loud verbal response was "OH SHIT". It's gooey and smells. Donning a pair of surgical gloves with a tooth brush, I proceeded to clean the sandal treads under a water faucet. Disposed of the gloves and toothbrush and hitched up and left the campground. Glad to be gone from there and never to return.

It was a poor start to a good day. Fortunately, I got over it once I was several miles down the road.

To this dog's owner (paraphrasing Johnny Carson's Carnac): "May the fleas of a thousand Great Danes nest in your shorts."

  1. Lloyd, allow me to commiserate. Similar situation, similar result. So many dog owners believe the rules only apply to others... or when others are watching.

  2. I agree with you both.

I have a neighbor who takes his two huge dogs to the local elementary school playground to do their business. Can you imagine those poor little kids having to dodge this mess when they are playing outside.

  4. Aren't you being a little squeamish for a former farm boy from Wisconsin? Geesh, you've been living with city slickers too long.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who consider themselves Nature Lovers in general don't see poopie, mud puddles, insect bites, disease, or death as legitimate parts of nature.

Only pretty sunsets, colorful butterflies, and vibrant rainbows are.

  5. Boonie, Personally, I would rather step in cow shit. Doesn't smell as bad and easier to wash off.

  6. Boonie, I don't think your neighbor is very "neighborly" to allow his dogs to crap in the schoolyard. Why hasn't someone reported him?

  7. Sorry, last message should have been addressed to gumo, not Boonie.

  8. There is a campaign to make dog owners aware of the mess their dogs leave in school playgrounds is not acceptable. However, there are still some dog owners who think the rules don't apply to them and we should all love their dogs like they do.

Signs have been installed on the grounds but it is still a mess especially after weekends.

  9. I've seen surprisingly little dog poop since I've been fulltiming. And I don't know why, but I find it creepy to pick up someone else's dog's poop. But back home, I've done the same thing, and I'll tell you, it's worse with running shoes, at least mine. Took forever to get it all out using a toothbrush. :(
