Pledge Revision

There appears to be a consensus that the Pledge of Allegiance does not reflect the current sentiments of the US citizens.

The revised version:

We, the citizens, pledge allegiance to the legislators of the United States of America, and to the corporations for which they stand, one nation under the Federal Reserve, ideologically divided, with liberty and justice for all who can afford good lawyers.

Note: The cartoon was drawn by Joseph Keppler and appeared in Puck on January 23, 1889.

  1. The more things change, the more they are the same. I, for one, don't adopt the revised pledge, and I'll bet most Americans don't, either. We need to vote our choices, and start paying attention.

  2. Good re-write. Couldn't be more appropriate for the days we're living in. I've already sent it to 8 friends. Donna

  4. Lloyd... There's a fly in the ointment here. How could a Pledge revision published in 1889? refer to a Federal Reserve that wasn't created until the Federal Reserve Act on December 23, 1913? have I missed something here?

As a Veteran, something has always poked at me... about the "Pledge"...

A little further reading is illuminating and food for thought... My how history is distorted by the writers of school books...

  5. Brian, The cartoon was published in 1889. The revision was done by me in 2011. My point with inclusion of the cartoon was that not much has changed in over 100 years. Thanks for the link posted in your comment.

This cynic assumes the "under god" was included to remind everyone that the USA is a theocracy.

Then there is the Star Spangled Banner. There are three more verses. The four verses are words in celebration of victory in war for the blood that was shed. Nothing much has changed there either.

  6. nope; "the more things change the more they stay the same."

Wasn't disagreeing at all, just thought I'd spotted an oops! :) only my spotting was the oops!

Guess my lil' acer wouldn't blow the cartoon up big enough so I could actually read it! ;) I might have seen what I missed. ;)

You Know Lloyd, you could only be labeled a cynic if you weren't accurate. :)

Fact is I don't dispute your "revision"... I just, honestly, am uncomfortable with a pledge to support "government" rather than the "Principle" of the constitution... much as in that link...

and the celebration of "victory" that's kind of the old B.S. about "Glory". If somebody can point out where glory can be found, in the obscenity of War I'm all ears...

We should be grateful that there are those who will defend us. Rather than celebration our hearts should break when they are lost. Somehow laughing, and waving flags and having Celebration BBQ's seems wrong... when so many lay broken and and forever shattered.

Rather than standing up and waving our nationalistic war clubs, We should be reticent in the Extreme to allow their lives to be spent in the first place. It should always and ONLY be the last possible option and only after extreme provocation.

It's struck me that those who pound their chests and shout about honor and demand the loudest that we attack some aborigines half way around the world, for some imagined slight... never seem to have ever put on the uniform themselves... and have no intention of ever putting themselves in harms way... Curious ain't it?

    Take Care Lloyd
